High performance centre for tennis to be held soon

Bhubaneswar : To provide better infrastructural support and international standard training to the budding sporting talents the State Government is in a plan to set up a high performance centre for tennis at Kalinga Stadium here, said Sports and Youth Services secretary Vishal Dev on Sunday, while inaugurating the 20th All Odisha Nalco Open Tennis Tournament here.

During the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup here the State Government roped different corporate houses and processional coaches to set up athletic, hockey, archery, badminton, weightlifting, football and shooting high performance centre here

The state had hosted back to back international events in this year, the capital city Bhubaneswar emerging as the biggest sporting hub with its international standard sporting infrastructure, added Dev.

In the world hockey map the Kalinga Stadium has been established its name as the most favorable destination. If in future the Davis Cup like events will take place here the local players will experience a quality tournament, simultaneously the State will have a different image for tennis, said Bhubaneswar District Tennis Association (BDTA) President Suresh Chandra Mohapatra.

The three-day events will be held in the boy’s U-12, U-16, girl’s U-14, women’s and men’s single’s category, while the double events to be held in the men’s open, men’s veteran 40+, 50+ and 60+ age groups categories.

Among others, Sports and Youth services director Vineel Krishna, BDTA secretary Saswat Mishra, vice-president Sanjeev Marik were present in the inaugural ceremony. .
