I league football Churchill beat Indian Arrows 1-0

Bhubaneswar : Conceding back to back defeat in last two league matches, the derailed Churchill Brothers FCG come to the track again by winning over home team Indian Arrows by 1-0 in the league round match of the I League at Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday. With scripting win Churchill gathered 16 points after playing 10 matches and placed in the fourth place.

In other hand, Indian Arrows registered two win, two defeat and a draw in their five home matches and remain with seven points to placed in the 10th.

The Indian Arrows coach retained the winning combination, the team which won the last home match against Gokulam FC at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. While, Churchill Brothers coach Petre Gigiu had made five changes to the side that lost 2-1 against East Bengal.

Khalid Aucho, Shallum Pires and Lamgoulen Gou Hangshing dropped from the squad, while Anthony Wolfe and Vignesh Baskaran were sent to the bench.

Arrows who were good at their defence through out the tournament, however Churchills started the first half with their attacking style. Churchills skipper Willis Deon Plaza who is so far the top score of the tournament along with Dawda Ceesay created several attempt to penetrate the Arrows circle.

It all happened when Arrows defender Jitendra Singh was failed to clear the ball and Plaza got hold of the ball and rested it in the left top corner of the post in the 40th minutes. With the goal, Paza's individual score reached to nine now. The first half score board read as 1-0 in favour of Churchill Brothers. Winning team defender Nickson Castanha adjudged as the man of the match.

After the change of sides, the Arrows had their chance to level the scores in the 74th minute as Boris’ cross caused chaos in the Churchill defence. The loose ball fell to Anwar Ali inside the penalty area but his effort went just over the bar.

Aniket Jadhav and Sanjeev Stalin came on for the Arrows they continued to hunt for their first goal of the match. Five minutes were added on by the referee and despite multiple waves of pressure by the young boys in blue, the Goan side held firm and maintained a clean sheet to pick up all three points. .
