Semifinalist spotted in National TT team events

Bhubaneswar : Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) and Airport Authority of India (AAI) will face Maharashtra-B and West Bengal respectively in the Women's team semifinals of the 11 Sports 80th National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championships at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday.

PSPB team maintained their supremacy by winning over Telangana 3-0 in the quarterfinal match. Canceding a set down PSPB skipper Manika Batra set the example for the team by winning the match against Sreeja Souls by 2-11, 11-9,11-6, 11-5. While Madhurika Patkar edged out Nikhat Banu 11-5,11-7,9-11,11-6 to double the lead and Mouma Das won the third match for PSPB by winning over Monica Manohar 11-8,13-11, 11-9.

Maharashtra-B team defeated their State A team by 3-2 to meet defending champion PSPB team in the semifinal.

Despite a strong fight Tamil Nadu's journey for the podium ended here as they suffered defeat from West Bengal by 2-3. TN won their first two matches but couldn't able to retained the lead, in other hand West Bengal eve's bounced back in style to register hat-trick win and the team entered the semifinal to meet AAI.

Reeth Rishya and Amrutha Pushpak won first two matches for TN by defeating Ayhik Mukherjee and Krittwika Sinha Ray by 11-7,11-7,11-9 and 16-14, 11-6,11-2 respectively, But Moushumi Paul opened the account for Bengal by winning over Vidya Narasimhan 11-6, 11-9,11-9, both the Bengal eve's Krittwika and Anhika bounced back in their second round matches by out playing Reeth and Amrutha respectively and scripted 3-2 win for Bengal.

Uttar Pradesh emerged as the dark horse of the meet as they upset last edition runner-up Haryana by 3-2 in the Men's quarterfinal. Similarly the defending champion PSPB men team scripted a easy win over Maharashtra-A team 3-0.

Tamil Nadu put a nail-biting fight but Delhi defeated them by 3-2, while in another quarterfinal match, Gujarat beat RSPB by 3-1. In the men's semifinals on Sunday, PSPB and Uttar Pradesh will meet Delhi and Gujarat respectively.
