Chennai City beat Arrows to retain top spot in I League

Bhubaneswar : Title fevorite Chennai City FC retained the top spot of the point table of Hero I League with 33 points by defeating Indian Arrows by 2-1 at Kalinga Stadium here on Friday.

The home team displayed tremendous registrants to Chennai City F C 's quality attack. They also go all out to script a lead, but it's experienced visitors who never allowed the home team to over take them and the first half ended the 0-0.

Indian Arrows coach Floyd Pinto has made as many as six changes from the team that beat Minerva Punjab 2-1. Samik Mitra replaced Prabsukhan Gill in goal while Sanjeev Stalin, Ninthoinganba Meetei, Abhijit Sarkar, Lalengmawia and Suresh Singh all made their way in as Boris Singh, Deepak Tangri, Rahul Praveen, Rahim Ali and Rohit Danu sit out.

While, Akbar Nawas had brought Michael Regin and Ranjeet Singh Pandre in place of Soundrapandian Rajapandi and Sinivasan Pandiyan.

After the change of sides, Chennai City intensified their attack with mid fielder Spain's Sandro R , forward Pedro Javier M, Nestro Jesus G .

A nasty tackle by Suresh Singh Wangjam just outside of the D area , resulted a free kick for Chennai and earned a yellow card for himself.

With a powerful strike Sandro R opened the account for Chennai in the 70th minute, his shot was touched the left hand of the Arrows goalkeeper Samik Mitra before entering the left corner of the post.

In a one to one encounter with Samik the Chennai midfielder Vijay Ponnurangam nailed a open post gaol in the 90th minute to took away the match from Indian Arrows.

We missed few scoring opportunities , but we need to give credit to the young Arrows the way they defended. We must looked at ourselves, how can we create more chances and how can we be more clinical.

Formation of 4-3-3 was defending deep in the first half by Arrows, We had to change to 4-4-2, we had to put more forward in the second half. We mixed our game wanted to draw the opponent before playing the diagonal pass. They were very compact but we needed to find a way. We managed to break away the deadluck and get a free kick. Another brakaway we got another goal, said Chennai coach Akbar. .
