Dutee, Purnima win medal in the Federation Cup

Bhubaneswar : Odisha’s ace sprinter Dutee Chand bagged gold medal in the 100 metre event by clocking 11.45 seconds in the 23rd Federation Cup Senior National Athletics Championship at Patiala in Punjab on Monday. However the qualification timing for Asian Athletic Championships is 11.40 seconds which she missed by a whisker.

She was the fastest among the participants from the begging, on the heats round she clocked 11.61 sec to enter the semifinal round and barged into the final with a timing of 11.48 seconds.

While, Archana Suseendran of Tamil Nadu and Ranga K of Kerala received silver and bronze medal in the 100 metre event with a timing of 11.72 and 11.75 seconds respectively.

Earlier, Dutee won a gold medal in the 200 metre event with a timing of 23.35 seconds on March 16. Swapna Barman the defending Asian Games gold medalist in the women’s heptathlon. Barman bagged gold with total of 5901 points was more than enough to meet the AFI qualification guideline of 5800 points.

Barman was followed by Odisha’s Purnima Hembram who recorded a total of 5597 points. The bronze medal was claimed by Tamil Nadu’s M Sowmiya who recorded a total of 5292 points. .
