Minerva gets permission to host AFC Cup at Kalinga Stadium

Bhubaneswar : Minerva Punjab FC club owner Ranjit Bajaj made a visit to Odisha on Thursday to meet the Sports and Youth Services Department officials. Despite of all odd the Department has been agreed to provide the Kalinga Stadium to Minerva FC to host their AFC Cup inaugural match here on May 1.

Earlier the Department was canceled the Kalinga Stadium as AFC Cup venue. The State Government officially informed to the Minerva Punjab FC that due to renovation work we could not able to provide you Kalinga Stadium as your home venue for the forthcoming AFC Cup schedule to be held on May 1, June 19 and June 26.

Bhubaneswar have been shortlisted as one of the host cities for the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup 2020. FIFA does not approve a venue for the World Cup unless significant amount of renovation work necessary has been completed. This is the only venue which will require significant changes to adhere to the FIFA requirements.

"I explained the situation to them and informed them that we can change our stadium only 30 days prior to the game. They understood the situation and have awarded us permission to host our first game at the Kalinga Stadium," said Bajaj.

Minerva now has the task of finding a venue for its next two home games, which are scheduled to be held on June 19 and 26 against Chennaiyin FC and Abahani Dhaka respectively,

The Club owner Ranjit Bajaj expressed “I want to profusely thank the @Naveen_Odisha @CMO_Odisha especially sports secretary Vishal Kumar Dev and Director Vineel Krishna for giving permission to play in Kalinga Stadium for our 1st home match/ this ensures enuf time to get another stadium 4 later matches .
