Sambit wins State open chess championships

Bhubaneswar : Local boy Sambit Panda has been gathered eight points by the end of ninth rounds to become champion of the State Open Chess Championships, which concluded here at Secretariat Recreation Club on Sunday.

The runner up trophy was claimed by Baibhav Mishra of Puri with eight points. While Rajendra Kumar Sahu and Soumya Ranjan Mishra finished third and fourth with seven points each.

In the age categories Swastik Suvam Patnaik (5.5 points), Pratyush Nayak (5.5), Saswat Sahoo (5.5), Pratyush Mohapatra (6), Kirti Anurag (6), Sovna Sonali Jena (6) won the U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15 and girls categories titles respectively. While Snehanjali Pradhan and Bansidhar Bhoi received best women and veteran awards respectively.

Sambalpur Irrigation Division Executive Engineer Rajkishore Ghadai gave away the prizes as the chief guest of the closing ceremony in presence of Orissa State chess Association secretary Smruti Ranjan Das, treasurer Bansidhar Bhoi, games director Debasis Panigrahi and executive member Pravat Kumar Nath. .
