259 participate in Kesabananda All India Open chess

Bhubaneswar : Record number of 259 players from across14 States and three Government aided units are participating in the five-day 6th Kesabananda Das Memorial All India Open Fide Chess Championship, which kicks started here on Wednesday.

The nine round tournament featured with 193 rated players, attracted with a Grandmaster Saptarshi Roy Chowdhury from Railways , three International Masters – Suvrajit Saha from West Bengal , Anup Deshmukh from LIC (Maharashtra), Chakravarthi Reddy from Telangana, one Fide Master local boy Rakesh Kumar Jena and three Candidate Masters Bharath Subramaniyam H from Tamilnadu, Shahil dey from Assam and Kush Bhagat from Maharashtra.

In first Round It was a clean sweep for all the seeded players. By the end of second round 54 players shared the top place with two points each.

Local boy Manish Kumar under 11 boy had pulled half point from the top seeded Saravana Krishnan P (Tamilnadu) in the second round and caused meager upset of the day. .
