Chakravarthi win Kesabananda All India Open Chess

Bhubaneswar : IM Chakravarthi Reddy M of Telangana emerged champion of the 6th Keshabananda Das All India OPEN Fide Rating Chess Tournament-2017, by gathering eight points by the end of ninth round here on Sunday.
Chakravarthi caused upset in the top board by forcing West Bengal GM Chowdhury Saptarshi shared points in the final round. Chakravarthi was registered seven win and two draw in the nine round meet. While Chowdhury was gabbed the runner up title with 7.5 points and Muthaiah Al of Tamil Nadu finished third with 7.5 points.
Local boy FM Rakesh Kumar Jena finished 13th with seven points. While Biswajit Nayak and Rakesh Kumar Jena placed in the 18th and 19th place respectively with 6.5 points each.
Chakravarthi received the trophy along with cash award of Rs 50,000, while Chowdhury and Muthaiah got Rs 30,000 and 20,000 respectively.
Record number of 259 players from across14 States and three Government aided units were participated in the five day meet.
The tournament was smoothly conducted by FA Tapas Kumar Mohanty (Cheif Arbiter) , FA Biswanath Banerjee(Deputy Chief Arbiter) , NA Santosh Mohapatra and NA Bhabesh Mohanty
Sarat Chandra Mishra Former Director General of Odisha Police , Ranjan Mohanty ,Vice President of AOCA, Subhasis Patnaik, Secretary ,Khordha District Chess Association andSaroj Kishore Behera , Jt.Secretary were present in the valedictory ceremony
