Mohan Bagan get winning start in Federation cup

Bhubaneswar : The defending champions Mohan Bagan become top of Group B by defeating DSK Shivajians 4-0 in their opening encounter of the Federation Cup on Monday. Bangalore FC are also with three points.

It was a different ball game here and a one-sided affairs, but DSK who had given them major scares in their last three encounters. Two draws and most recently, the Mohan Bagan had to come from a goal behind and managed to win 3-1 afterall in Calcutta in mid-February.

Balwant Singh who opened the deadlock for Mohan Bagan with a classic striker's goal with a header in the 24th minute. Right wings Sony Norde was send a pinpoint cross into the box. However Balwant was made no mistake and connected well into the net. While Sony Norde’s flag kick was deflected by DSK defender, Darryl Duffy rightly reached on spot correctly head it banging in on the topside of the net in the 65th minute.

Balwant Singh got his deserved brace tonight, he took a soft shot as Rohit Kumar blocks it. But, the rebound was hit straight into the goal post, the score board 3-0 in the 71st minute.

In the injury time, Jeje Lalpekhlua made icing on the cake as he gets one one with DSK goalkeeper Soram P Anganba and dumped the ball into his farside. Finally Mohan Bagun dominated the match by 4-0.

We had a plan to earn full points in the opening match. When it was came with four goals it’s better for the team in total. We want to keep the momentum through out the tournament. Many a times we won a match with high margien, but subsiquantly could not maintain the acciliration, said Mohan Bagan coach Sanjay Sen. .
