Aizawl first to enter Federation Cup semis

Bhubaneswar : Spirited Aizawl edged out Churchill Brothers 2-1 to notch back to back win and first team to conformed the semifinal berth in the Federation Cup at Barabati on Tuesday. I league champion gathered six points in their two outings.

It was Lalruatthara who won the spot-kick with a flying run down the left wing. He raced past his marker but Keenan Almeida barged him down inside the D area. The referee came into action awarding a clear penalty for Aizawl.

Lalramchullova who took the spotkick duty and he promptly send Naveen Kumar the wrong way and scripted a 1-0 lead for Aizawl in the 21st minute. After the changes of sides, the weather changed with heavy showers. The grass at Barabati was slick and the ball is skidding faster with the rain.

While Aizawl defender Ashutosh Mehta heads a clearance high inside the box. Brandon Fernandes rushed for a volley but clashing with Chullova who was also going for the ball. The referee immediately blows for a penalty in favour of Churchill.

Taking the advantage of spot kick, Ansumana Kromah nailed the equaliser in the 84th minute for Churchill.

A diagonal ball was received by Lal Danmawia who sneaked in behind the defence and headed the pass into the post in the final minute.

We work hard to enter the semifinals. It was not a easy win for us. We are going to play another league match. As team is in last four bout, we will give rest to few of our players. In both the matches we faced many tough condition and strong oppent. When you are top in the table, other teams will put their best to beat you, said Aizawal coach Khalid Jamil. .
