CM announces cash award for Dutee and Jauna

Bhubaneswar : Sports loving Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik on Sunday wished good luck to Odisha sprinter Dutee Chand and Jauna Murmu, both will take part in the IAAF World Athletics Championships schedule to be held at London from August 4 to 13. CM also declared cash award of Rs 5 lakh each to both the athletes.

Two from Odisha got selected in the 25-member Indian athletics team. Earlier, Jauna’s name has been considered to take part in the 400 metre women and 4X400 relay event.

The fastest women of the country Dutee, who narrowly missed achieving the women’s 100m qualification mark of 11.26 seconds, has got an invitation from the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) thanks to her season’s best of 11.30 seconds.

Of the five 100m finals she raced till July 9, her best of 11.30 seconds came at the third leg of the Indian Grand Prix held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on May 15.

With the qualification period having ended, the IAAF invited Chand as the target number of 56 athletes for 100m at London was not reached. Chand’s best achievement in the qualifying period gives her a global ranking of 100. .
