Barabati likely to host Ind Vs Sri Lanka T20 match in December

Bhubaneswar : Cricket lovers of the State may miss the opportunity to experience the thrill of a international T20 cricket match at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, as the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) expressed their unwillingness to host the T20 cricket match between India and New Zealand on November 4.

Earlier the decisions were taken at the Board's tours and fixtures committee meeting that series against New Zealand will commence mid-October and the three ODIs will be held in Pune, Mumbai and Kanpur followed by three T20 Internationals at Delhi, Cuttack and Rajkot.

“Holding an international match at the time of BaliYatra will not be possible, Bali yatra is an annual week long fair which starts on the day of Kartika Purnima every year. The yatra starts near the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. As more than 10 lakh people throng to witness the yatra necessitating deployment of more than 45 platoons of police, along with quick action teams and rapid action forces. Besides, the district administration, which organises the yatra, remains on the awful busy for a fortnight,” expressed OCA adhoc Working Committee Chairman Dhiren Pillai.

“We have told the BCCI authorities to provide another T20 match of the India and Sri Lanka serious in the month of December so can host the match without much problem. We are expecting a T20 international match at Barabati Stadium on December 20, added Pillai.

It will be a big home season for the Indian team as it will play 23 international matches at home. Three Tests, 11 ODIs and nine T20 Internationals across three series starting end of September and concluding at the end of December. Each and every venue in India will be covered. .
