CM felicitates International Para-Athlete Jayanti Behera

Bhubaneswar : Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday felicitated para athlete Jayanti Behera for winning two medals in the recently concluded World Para Athletics Junior Championships held at Nottiwil, Switzerland.

Patnaik also announced a cash prize of Rs 12 lakh for Behera.She would be felicitated on August 29 on the occasion of National Sports Day for bringing laurels to the state and the country.

She grabbed one gold and a silver medals in the World Junior Para-Athletic Championships at Nottwil in Switzerland from August 3 to 6. She grabbed gold medal in the women 400 metre T47 and captured a silver medal in the 200 metre T47 events by clocking 1.01 minutes and 28.04 seconds respectively.

Earlier this year, she got a identical success at the China Open Para-Athletic Grad Pix Championships, by winning a gold and a silver in the 400 and 200 metre witha timings of 1:02 minute and 28.50 seconds.By virtue of the China open meet success she got selected for the London World Athletic Championships, where she secured sixth place in the 400 metre final in the month of July.

I am extremely happy that CM felicitated me and also announced cash award, once I was expressed that the State Government is only supporting the general athletes not to the differently challenged players, I was wrong, My State is always taking care of all players, said Jayanti Behera.

I never got the chance to practices in a synthetic track, I am very happy that the Sports and Youth Services Minister Chandra Sarthi Behera allowed me to do my practice at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, added Jayanti.

On the occasion Sports and Youth Services Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera, chief secretary Aditya Padhy and other officials were present. .
