State to boost infrastructure to host World Cup hockey

Bhubaneswar : After the successful hosting the Asian Athletic Championships here in the capital city, The Odisha State Government feel privileged to host the Hockey India Final League in the year 2017 and World Cup Hockey for Men in the year 2018.

The State Government is planning to boost other infrastructure like hotel and guest house arrangement for the guests, officials and visitors during the global events. The State Government will provide all support and assistance for the successful organisation of this international event.

The decision was taken after a preparatory meeting held here on Monday headed by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi in view of FIH Hockey World League-2017 and Men’s World Cup-2018.

Padhi advised showcasing Odisha and its potential in the fields of tourism, culture and sports development during the event and up-lode the data in the website. So it will help the visitors to book their accommodation well ahead the mega event. The meeting was attended by Hockey India Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elena Norman, State Development Commissioner R Balkrishna, Tourism secretary Mona Sharma, BMC Commissioner Kisan Kumar and State Sports and Youth Services Department Secretary Vishal Deb among others.

Altogether 16 top teams of the World will take part in the World Cup Hockey in the month of December 2018, More then 20,000 spectators are expected to give better facility, Kalinga Stadium will be revamped including increasing the seating capacity from 9,000 to 20,000 by end of October next year, said Sports and Youth Services secretary Vishal Kumar Dev.

The official said two more galleries will be added to the existing infrastructure to increase the seating capacity of main ground of Kalinga Stadium, the practice ground will also be renovated. .
