CM Flags off Himalayan expedition team

Bhubaneswar : Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday flagged off a 16-member Himalayan expedition team at Naveen Niwas here.

The Odisha Government’s sports and youth services department has launched the Biju Patnaik Himalaya Abhijan in association with Tata Steel Adventure Foundation. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik handed over flags and wished them luck for their expedition.

The mountaineering team comprising of 13 men and three women would climb Mt Rudugaira (19,100 ft) during their mission. Priyanka Mishra , Sasmita Routaray both from Bhubaneswar and Ipsamayee Dube of Kalahandi are the three women mountaineer. International repute mountaineer Jogabyasa Bhoi will lead the team.

Biju Patnaik Himalayan expedition is an annual programme started in the year 2016 to commemorate the Biju Patnaik birth centenary celebration.

Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) was conducted a three tier selection cum preparatory camp to finalise the 15 member team. Altogether 84 youth were attended the fitness test at kalinga stadium in the month of March, out of them 35 youths qualified for the 1st phase selection trail camp held at Jamshedpur from March 10 to 15.

In the second phase selection trail total 25 youth were took part at Uttarkashi from March 20 to 28. Finally a 15-member team including three women were selected by TSAF. .
