Manish, Saswat joint leader in State U-11 Open Chess

Bhubaneswar : Top seeded Manish Kumar and tenth seeded Saswat Mallick gathered five points each and jointly placed in the top by the end of fifth rounds in the State U-11 Open and Girls Chess Championship at Ravenshaw University Convention Centre at Cuttack on Tuesday. In the sixth round on Wednesday, Manish will face Saswat in the top board.

Manish edged out second seeded Shreyash Shuvam Patnaik and Bikash Kumar Lenka in the fourth and fifth round respectively on Tuesday. Similarly, Saswat win over Kaustav Dash and Aryan Mohapatra in the fourth and fifth rounds.

Soyam Laximdatt D Sabat, Harshit Ranjan Sahu, Anubrata Priyadarshan Sahu and Priansh Das were shared the second place by scoring 4.5 points each, while 13 players jointly placed in the thirds place with four points each.

In the girls category, unrated Shruti Snehi caused upset of the day by winning over top seeded Bijayalaxmi Barik in the fifth round and become solo leader with five points by the end of fifth round. Shruti was ranked 59th in the meet now placed in the top place by registering five rounds back to back win.

P Sairupa and Suhana Jena shared the second place by scoring 4.5 points each. The sixth round Sairupa will meet Shruti on Wednesday. .
